Rejoicing In God’s Love for Us

The excitement of the disciples is palpable.  Like gleeful children, they return home from this missionary experience and eagerly share with Jesus all the marvelous things they were able to do in his name.  Jesus’ response is intriguing.  At first, it might seem that he is putting a damper on their enthusiasm. But maybe Jesus wants their enthusiasm to be rooted in something deeper than the apparent success of their preaching.  Yes, they performed some mighty deeds.  Yes, they should be happy and excited.  But they must always remember that God has already performed in each of them an even mightier deed:  “your names are written in heaven” (Verse 20)
