"> Sunday, June 14 – Prince of Peace

Sunday, June 14

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus looks upon the crowds a with compassion, “because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd.” Moved by love, He calls his apostles and sends them forth to proclaim the Kingdom of God, heal the sick and bring hope to those in need.

This Gospel reminds us that the mission of the Church continues today. Through Baptism, each of us is called to be a disciple and to share Christ’s love with others through our words, actions and daily witness. The Lord continues to send laborers into His harvest, inviting all of us to participate in His work of mercy and salvation.

This year, as our nation observes the 250th. anniversary of its founding, Catholics across the United States have a special opportunity to reflect on our country’s spiritual heritage. This past week, the bishops of the United States renewed the nationn’s dedication to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This act recalls the original dedication made by the American bishops in 1899 in respponse to Pope Leo XIII’s call for the consecration of the world to the Sacred Heart. At that time, the bishops entrusted our nation to the loving Heart of Christ, praying that His mercy, truth and peace would guide the American people.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus, bless our nation, strengthen our faith, and inspire us to be faithful disciples and joyful witnesses to His Love.
