Easter Sunday

Today, the Church proclaims with joy the greatest truth of our faith. Jesus Christ is Risen from the Dead! Death has been conquered, sin is defeated, and eternal life is opened to all who believe.

In the Gospel for Easter Sunday, we hear of the empty tomb. The stone is rolled away, not to let Christ out–but to let us in, so that we may see and believe. The Resurrection is not simply an event of the past, it is a living reality that transforms our lives today.

For generations, the Steelton Catholic community has celebrated this day with profound jo and reverence. After the solemn journey of Lent and Holy Week, the light of the Resurrection breaks forth like the dawn. The Church, once quiet and veiled, now resounds with bells, candles, flowers and triumphant hymns. Christ’s Resurrection is not only His victory-what seemed like defeat on Good Friday is revealed as triumph on Easter morning.

As people of faith, we celebrate Easter not only in the liturgy, but also in the rich traditions handed down through our families: the blessing of Easter foods symbolizing God’s abundant provision; the sharing of eggs signs of new life and resurrection; and the gathering of families in faith, unity, and thanksgiving. These customs are not merely cultural–they are deeply rooted expressions of our belief that life has overcome death.

in a world often marked by darkness, we are called to be people of the Resurrection–bringing light, faith, and love to others.

As we celebrate this holy day, may we renew our faith in the risen Lord. May our homes be filled with joy, our hearts with gratitude, and our lives with the hope that comes from Christ alone.

Let us proclaim it boldly, with one voice and one heart: Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!
